cp-e's Xcel™ intake is unlike any other intake for the MazdaSPEED3. This is not just another clever marketing scheme; they actually apply several crucial design details to their intake that their competitors overlook. To illustrate their point, let’s consider how their competitors make their cold air kits.
Their competitors bend their standard size aluminum pipe (think 2.5", 2.75", 3" etc.) as one piece and then put a filter on the end of it. This is cheap and easy to manufacture, but the resulting vehicle drivability can be hit or miss because little attention is paid to the mass air sensor, which is arguably the most important sensor on your engine! Because their competitors use standard size pipe, the diameter of the mass air housing is not ideal, and this usually leads to knocking and/or hesitation under heavy throttle inputs.
The cp-e™ Xcel™ intake on the other hand has several features that ensure an accurate mass air meter reading. They not only machine out mass air housings from aluminum blanks to tolerances of +/- 0.002" (about the width of a human hair), but they also include a stock-style airflow straightener, which their competitors delete, yet greatly improves sensor precision. The resulting fuel trims are nearly stock, and the vehicle drivability is unchanged from stock save for the extra horsepower of course!
The Xcel™ cold air intake comes complete with all necessary hardware required for a complete and professional installation.
